7th June 2022
We hope you all had a good Whitsun break! This half term we will be looking at “Homes and Travel” with the children as we look at where we live and differences and similarities in our homes here and in other countries.
There will be visits from the teachers at ‘big’ school in the coming weeks. We will be supporting independence during lunch club and our hot dinner practice, using knives and forks. The children will have the opportunity to get changed into dressing up clothes and school uniform if they wish and practice taking shoes on and off. If you can be mirroring this at home for the children transitioning to ‘big’ school it will be a huge help.
We are going to continue looking at initial letter sounds, recapping what we have already covered and extending this if possible, so we will have looked at S A T P I N sounds by the end of term. We will take the children over in small groups to visit the Foundation classrooms in July so they become more familiar with the school space.
Week 1 - 7th -10th June – recapping S A T letter soundsThe focus for the week is the story “A River” by Marc Martin, that follows a journey on a river, past cities, farmland, a jungle and finally ends up at the ocean. We will be creating all the different elements of the landscape in the story through model making, painting and collage to create a large display. In each element we will talk about the homes in these places, what it is like to go to school in these different environments, and how people might travel.
Wednesday 8th June – Richard Greenwood Graduation photographs these will be taken in the morning session, if you do not attend Wednesday AM you can come between 8.30am -9am to have your child’s photo taken, just email in so we can allocate you a time. Photos will be going home this week and orders need to be in by Thursday 16th June. There is no obligation to buy. Richard kindly donates 20% of the sales to Pre-School.
Week 2 13th - 17th June – recapping P I letter soundsThe children will be looking at our homes and families and there will be a PSED focus as we talk about starting school and questions children have about this.
Friday 17th June – INSET DAY – Pre-School is closed
Week 3 20th – 24th June – Letter N
HOT DINNERS ALL WEEK in the preparation for school (AM only) - children need to bring 50p in a named purse/envelope for each day or if you would like to send the full weeks Money on Monday if they attend multiple sessions that would be helpful. This money will go towards the cost of the food. Packed lunches will not be required this week. A separate letter will be sent to you nearer the time. This week we will be focusing on our physical development as we look at becoming more independent with putting on socks and shoes, doing up coat zips and trying on school uniform.

Even though it is summer the children will still need long sleeves and trousers as the woods are overgrown, wellies and waterproofs as well please, there will be a separate letter about this week. In the woods we will be looking at patterns in nature and supporting our maths development.
Week 5 4th - 8th July – Transition activitiesWe will have school uniform and PE kits in the home corner to try on and practice getting changed independently. We are hoping this week we may be able to do some visits over to ‘big’ school to see the foundation classrooms in small groups.

We hope to have a story time with one of the teachers from foundation.
Tuesday 12th July – our Leaver’s trip to the adventure farm, for our Pre-Schooler’s only, there will be NO SESSIONS this day for our Early starters. A separate letter will be sent about the trip. The committee will be giving Pre-School a Spring clean and any parent volunteers will be most welcome. There will be a sign-up sheet and if you cannot make this day, there are toys you could take away and clean. This is a huge help at the end of term.
Week 7 18th – 21s JulyMonday – Dress up as your favourite animalTuesday – Pirate’s and Princess dress up dayWednesday – PRE-SCHOOL is CLOSED – meet at Rolleston cricket club for our Fun day instead with your picnic from 12-3pm, everyone is welcome. There will be games to play, face painting, a tombola and hopefully sunshine as we say farewell to all our Pre-Schooler’s heading off to ‘big’ school.
We have given you a few ideas of what we might do over the next few weeks, but we would love your ideas, and the children to. So, if you can think of an activity, song, story, anything that might work around our theme of “Traditional tales” please write them down below and hand in to a member of staff and we will hopefully include them in our plans.

Children’s Ideas:
A huge thank you for all your donations for the garage sale and to both committee and parents for helping sell refreshments and running stalls on the day, as well as organising the map for the garage sale. We were able to raise over £700 for Pre-School funds which is amazing!
Please remember named sunhats and sun cream on the children each day.
Thanks for all of your continued support
