Lolene Poxon - Pre-School Manager
Safeguarding Children Co-Ordinator & ENCO
NVQ 6 & Early Years Professional Status

I have worked in childcare for over 14 years and this has taken me all over the world. I have been so fortunate to work and learn from some of the best. I joined Rolleston Pre-School in January 2007 as an assistant while I completed my NVQ3; in the September of that year I became the manager. I had previously worked as an illustrator for several years and still love to paint in my spare time. I am an officer in the Girls' Brigade and work with the children from 11-16 years on a voluntary basis. In 2010 I completed my Early Years Professional Status at Derby University, so you have a graduate leader managing your setting. The last ten years have been such a joy being part of this community and getting to know so many children and their families in the preparation for school.

Early Years Professional Status

After having my second child, I re-trained to work in Early Years, a job I had always wanted to do.  As part of this qualification, I led the playgroup in the village and gained experience in all areas of the 0-5 age group.  I particularly love the pre-school age and thrive on making a difference in a child's early years.  I am also a proud mum of two boys, both of which attended Rolleston Pre-School.  I look forward to supporting you and and your child in our Pre-school setting

Julia Croxall - Forest School Leader
NVQ 3 in Child Care, Education and Development and Level 3 Certificate in Forest School Programme Leadership

I have 2 daughters and have worked locally all of my life.  On leaving school I worked for LLoyds Bank PLC for 15 years. When I had my family I decided to study for my childcare qualifications working at Tutbury Pre-School & Richard Wakefield School Tutbury in Early Years and KS1. I joined Rolleston Pre-School in 2008.  I have a special interest in literacy.  I love stories and story telling - encouraging children's imagination and love of books. I am also passionate about outdoor woodland play where children have a unique opportunity to explore, experience and experiment.  They have the freedom to discover and learn at their own pace - oh and to get muddy very, very muddy!

Louise Calder - Lead Practitioner
Behaviour Management Co-Ordinator
NVQ 3 Early Years Care and Education

My name is Louise Calder. I have lived in Rolleston for over 22 years now. I have two children. I have trained as a counsellor for Cruise dealing with loss and bereavement issues in children and adults. I currently hold an NVQ 3 in Early Years Care & Education which I completed in 2002.  I have worked at Rolleston Pre-school since 2003, which I really enjoy, as I believe the early years are some of the most important in a child's life. I look forward to welcoming your children to Pre-School.

NVQ 4 Children's Care, Learning & Development

I have been working in childcare for 16 years. This passion of mine started with taking my own children to mothers and toddlers. I was asked to help out and became involved from that moment on, before long I found myself running it. I took my diploma in Pre-School Practice in 1997 and went on to help out at the Pre-School; during that year I became an assistant, then leading onto part time manager of the Pre-School. At that time I took my NVQ 3 in Early Years Care & Education in 1999. In 2008 I moved to Rolleston Pre-School as an Early Years Practitioner. In 2010 I passed my NVQ 4 in Children's Care, Learning & Development. I am currently a governor at Christchurch Infant School and have been so for the past 15 years. On top of my achievements I am a proud mother of 4 children.

Sue Melia - Administrator
NVQ 2 Childcare, Learning & Development

I have two boys and live in Stretton. When my eldest child attended Pre-School I decided to join the committee. I was subsequently a committee member for just under three years and during this time I became secretary. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the committee as I made lots of friends in the village and had an insight of how Pre-School is run. Before I had my children I worked at M W Cripwell for 10 years where I was Office Manager. My second child, who is autistic, also attended Pre-School in September  2005. His time at Pre-School was invaluable towards his development and the support he received was fantastic. When my second child started school I decided to do a childcare course and volunteered at Pre-School to help with my studies. I now have my NVQ 2 in Childcare, Learning & Development. This led me into  a part time job at Pre-School in 2006. From September 2009 I took over the administration job in Pre-School which is my present role.

I feel fortunate to now work in this fabulous village setting with a team of highly skilled professionals in early years.
My own journey in education had different beginnings. Qualifying as a teacher in 1997, I gained experience in schools around the West Country and East Anglia before moving to the Burton area and teaching junior aged children for a number of years.  Having my own family then stimulated an interest in early years as I immersed myself in the new world of messy play and toddler groups and truly began to appreciate the foundation years underpinning all learning.  After my son and daughter's own happy years here, I was lucky enough to begin working here myself.  It is now a privilege to work with your children as they start their own journeys in education.  I am also involved with Scouting in the village so it is wonderful to often see them again on their adventures in Beavers,Cubs and Scouts.  Rolleston Pre-School is a great place to work.  I am now the SENDCo here and the opportunities for continuing professional development, demonstrate just how much learning is valued and all people are nurtured in this very special setting.
